Hello all, I'm an owner of a 95 750 nighthawk that I bought 4 months ago with
only 5300 miles on it (has 7000 now). It's my second motorcycle. Had a 03
ducati monster 620 but it got me in trouble with speed so had to sell it ;).
Well back to my story. I've started to add accessories to my NH (saddle bags,
hand guards) feeling really proud. I just cleaned and lubed the chain so
decided to give it a good cleaning. Wash down, chrome shined. I sprayed some
tire shine on and that's where I had made my mistake. I went out for my Sunday
ride, feeling good with my bike all clean and polished. I turn out of my
neighborhood and when I made the long left onto the main street the tires just
lost their traction and I feel off. I was in disbelief, I look over and see the
bottom of my bike looking at me while I sit in the middle of the road. Just a
few scraps I get up lift the bike and ride it home. Had to hammer the left peg
back into place, the shifter peddle is bent in alittle but still useable.
Scraps on the very back lower corner of the exhaust pipe and the lower front
part of the cover of the gear box also a small hole in the lower front corner
of the side pocket to my saddlebag. The left hand guard got alittle beat up
have to replace the screws but still useable and the kicker my clutch lever is
bend 90 degrees inwards. All in all the bike and I came out pretty good. No
damage to the gas tank. Nothing noticeable as far as bends in the handle bar
just the tip of the grip is a little chewed off. The upsetting part of all this
is my local motorcycle store didn't have my clutch lever in stock. So I sit
here on a beautiful Sunday watching my fellow bikes ride. Wishing I didn't have
that stupid tire shine. I've wiped it all off of course but after the fact.
I've learned a hard lesson today and hope someone learns from my mistake. I'll
post some pictures when my part comes in and I'm riding again.
