Replaced my NH 650 with a 1995 750 last year. Only 5000 miles but the
carbs were dirty from having gas stored in it.

It stalled and ran like junk at low throttle so I pulled the carbs and
cleaned them thoroughly and re-installed and balanced them. Or at least I
think they are balanced. Good news, low end is fine and the engine sounds
much smoother!

Here is the trick. Rev it up in the shop and roll the throttle back and
the rpm drops instantly. Get it on the road and the rpm stays the same or
even jumps 500 rpm and then after 5 or 10 seconds will begin to descend.
this only happens in motion. Pull over and try and repeat the problem and
the rpm drops like it should. Back on the road and it will redevelop the
problem. Checked the cable play. Lubed the cable and throttle linkages,
balanced the carbs again and checked for an induction leak by spraying some
starting fluid where the intake manifolds go into the engine.

Would a dirty air filter do this? It looked good, but maybe not. The only
thing I can figure changed from driveway to in motions is the air flow.

Any advice would be welcomed. I would be tearing my hair out but ist
already gone!

Thanks
Daniel
