Sorry, there is quite a bit more to it. I should have been much more detailed. I had just come inside quite frustrated and fired off a quick question. But thanks to Kurt I have now completed step one! I've got a 1983 NH 550 with about 6,000 miles on it. With out the bolt, the cover and filter fit in place just fine. With out the cover, I can still only get about 4 turns. The threads on the bolt look good. I didn't have a problem removing it initially. I rode about 100 miles since having the piston rings replaced and the cylinders honed. I did clean the hole out first. It's hard to tell, but it feels like there may be damage to the threads inside. There are flecks of metal that I originally thought may have been debris from the honing, but I don't really know what to I'm looking for there. What would trace would honing leave? And what do I do if it is stripped?
