Adding to what Kyle said, loud exhausts also promote fatigue in riders, as well as contribute to a negative image of motorcycles in general in the mind of the average member of the public.
A more effective use of money would be investing in hi-vis gear, and practicing diligently staying out of the typical blind spots of modern cars. So no riding even with the trunk or rear door of a sedan, etc. Safest places are forward or aft of the car entirely, and passing with all alacrity when you must.
