I had a recent incident with a cager. He decided I wasn't allowed to
merge. I was in front of him in the merge lane, I was about 1/3 of the way
in and he accelerated up next to me. I slapped my knuckles against his
passenger window and he slammed on the breaks. Once in front of him he
started tailgating me. I literally stopped the bike in the middle of the
road in rush hour traffic. His wife jumped out of their car and proceeded
to first try to push my bike over and then started hitting my jacket. Must
have hurt her hands hitting the armor. The guy jumps out and I yell at him
to "get your stupid and ugly wife away from me or I'll have her ugly ass
thrown in jail". He pulled her back and I took off. They followed me for
about 4 miles, I ended up on the sidewalk going the wrong direction on a
one-way street. The guy yelled at me that I wasn't allowed to merge in
front of him. I'm extremely conservative when I ride. Honolulu always has
traffic and our drivers are worse than LA. I waited for the car in front
of him and was following the law. I think he was having a bad day and took
it out on a bike because he was in a car.

Moral of the story: drive like they want to kill you and when something
happens stop. I was wearing boots, gloves, helmet and armored jacket.
They really couldn't hurt me when I'm standing on the ground.
