Mark, my 79 GS used to feel like it swayed back and forth slightly at any speed. Since I swapped the front end out that has gone away. I attribute it to either different geometry, or new head bearings. So maybe on the old bikes the just didn't know the math required to make a stable bike at speed. That and they used to be more of a motorized bicycle from a frame perspective. Frame flex was an issue up until probably the 90s, though it mostly was resolved by 1980. I know I made some turns on my 92 NH750 where I could feel the swingarm twist. That is what prompted me to get a sport bike.
