David your carbs are pretty dirty. Mine was doing the same thing during
cold weather when I got it. In fact if I turned off the choke it would Bog
down if I ran it below 4k for any length of time. Once you clean them set
the needles around 3- 3 1/4 turns out, and definitely do the washer mod.
There is a Big flat spot around 4k rpm if I remember correctly, shimming
the needles fixes it. I'm pretty sure I ended up using a 135 main jet as
well I'm at 1000 feet elevation. I can look up what I used if you want.
Honda tuned the bike extremely lean. Once cleaned, and adjusted like I
stated, mine would start on the first crank even below freezing. Warm up
times were much faster as well.
