Can I use copper crush washers on clutch/brake line banjo bolts? The OEM parts are silver in color, and they are over $3 apiece. By contrast, and entire box of copper crush washers is like $4 at Harbor Freight. Rather than drive across town or pay shipping to Partzilla, I stuck some copper ones on my clutch master and slave. Of course they're holding, but it makes me wonder how they'll fare over time. Will they corrode or do some other nasty thing?
I know this is really a niche question, but anyone have any thoughts? BTW, this was my first time to refill a clutch line after a rebuild. I'd always heard it was an ordeal. It wasn't. I had it filled an bled in maybe 10 minutes with no MightyVac. I loosened the bleeder valve on the slave and back filled the line with my MixMizer syringe ($4 at Walmart). Watched the air bubble out the top reservoir (I did put a little DOT 4 in there at first) as I pushed it in. Put a little in at a time and squeezed the clutch lever repeatedly after each filling. Before I knew it, the air was out and the clutch lever was tight. I was pleasantly surprised. Any problem with leaving the copper crush washers in there, or should I make the trip to the Honda shop?
