Some bikes won't run on a weak or dead battery. I had a 1985 Suzuki GS550L, the four cylinder model with two carbs in one (two carbs on the bike but really four), a very quick and nice riding bike. I couldn't keep that bike running. The plugs kept fouling - until I replaced the battery. That solved the problem.
