Awesome advice Mark! I did take apart the starter before I bedded the bike down for the winter, but I can definitely check again to make sure that no oxidation has occurred since. I will look into both the spring below the clutch (didn't even think to check for a mechanism like that, but it makes sense to be able 5I restart from a stall..) and the box rebuild and get back to you!
