Hello everybody, I got a new battery for the 650 I'm rebuilding and got some electrical gremlins right from the get go. The first time I turned the bike on all the displays lit up, indicators came on, the whole nine yards. That lasted for about 10 seconds before everything went dark and I smelled blue smoke but I couldn't determine where it was coming from. I start wiggling some wires and nothing seems to happen but the moment I stop everything comes back on for a few more seconds before it goes dark for good.
In the process of trying to diagnose the cause I have found that I can get the indicators and all the lights on but ONLY when the bike is in neutral AND the clutch is depressed. I figure that there's a short somewhere or a ground connection that's broken but I am truly at a loss as to where that may be. I've spent about a week tracing the wiring diagrams and haven't been able to isolate the problem area. Is there any component that may stick out as a problem?
