>From my own exploration for my 650, which is also shaft driven, connecting the motor to the driveshaft is going to be a little tricky w/ out the transmission. It's a fairly tight space, and any motor with some oomph was going to be a decent diameter to fit in the frame.
Ultimately I decided that I was going to eliminate the driveshaft entirely, and run a hub motor in the rear. There is a company called Enertrac that builds one that is designed to be laced into a rim, and as an added bonus they give you mounting bosses for a rear disc brake AND offer engineering and design services with purchase for a holding bracket to keep the hub stationary. My plan is to build a plate to go in the final drive housing that will let me bolt the motor to it, then run the HV cabling (I'm going to run mine @ 120V to keep the current requirements down) and the COOLING LINES (because they offer a watercooled version) down the driveshaft tube, which removes my need to figure out alignment of motor and driveshaft and as an added bonus will let me run taller rear shocks to get a little tighter steering and more of an adventure bike look.
