I know I'm just playing catch-up on 30 years of neglected maintenance, but
sometimes it just gets discouraging. I got stranded for a half hour at the
local chic-fil-a because all my gas had drained into the air box, thankfully
not into the cylinders.

I know this because I removed the crankcase breather hose plug and about a 1/4
gallon of gas came out with only a little oil.

This must mean two things:

1. My petcock rebuild did not work correctly. Gas should not drain into the
float bowls if the bike is off.

2. I probably need new floats and float pins for my carbs. I had hoped so much
that I would not have to take the carbs off this bike.

Am I on the right track? If so, please provide any resources that you may know
of to help, because at this point I have a track record for putting things
together wrongly...
