I'm a newbie to the Nighthawk club. A little over a year ago I was given a 1984 Nighthawk S that sat for about four years because it stopped running. The poor guy took it to a local shop and they told him the engine was bad and it would cost big bucks to fix it. He parked it and bought a Harley. He told me I could haul it off for scrap or whatever.
I took it home and waited a year to mess with it, The fuel tank was rusty and the petcock drain bowl was packed with rust. Also one of the wires at the stop run switch had broken. I repaired the wire and cleaned the tank and petcock. She fired and idled like a new one. I was shocked since I thought the engine was bad. I rode it and was even more stunned because it ran great. So after reading all the reviews and studying the history I have the bug really bad. I'm in full restoration mode now. I attached a pic of what it looked like when I got it. I have my work cut out for me. What's the best way to prep or remove old paint?
