So I just bought my first motorcycle and I have a small amount mechanical
knowledge but the bike has been sitting for 20 years. So the first thing I
did was take each spark plug out (all of them were oil fouled looking) and
put some oil down each cylinder. So the next day I replaced all the spark
plugs and cranked up the engine with new gas but nothing happened as I
figured so I then pulled the carbs and cleaned them. Now after getting
everything together It finally fired up making a little noise for the first
3-5 seconds or so then started sounding normal with a lot of smoke for
about 30-60 seconds it ran okay. But it started to make a little like ping
noises it wasn't very loud though and it was still smoking pretty heavily
so I shut it off since it was midnight. This morning I started it up again
and it sounded good for the first 20 seconds but the noise came back. So I
pulled the choke lowering the RPMs and it went away for a couple seconds
and I repeated until the choke was completely off and the noise still came
back so I shut it off. Now I don't even get power to the dash which is a
different issue but to me it feels like the engine is screwed and the owner
lied about why he parked it plus it only has 14k miles. Anybody have any
idea what I should do next?
