I'm guessing this is acceptable so my culprit must be the carburetor? Maybe this time I will separate the carbs and thoroughly clean them. I just got the leakdown test kit this morning so I'll have everything ready to test it this weekend. Problem eliminated, now you chase the other stuff (and become the local guy to loan out his compression tester) Now you want to do a leakdown test. The fittings from the compression tester will be needed. Have you downloaded the factory service manual from the forum? I added some oil to cylinder #2 and the psi jumped 150+ guess I've got worn out rings on #2? Well I'm in the market for a new bike not really in the mood to rip apart a motorcycle engine, don't even know where to begin. I'll try it out tomorrow and let you know if it works thanks for the suggestion. My 650 came with a cheap inline filter the PO had installed and I had the same problem with it cutting out after a while on the freeway. Pull over and let it sit and it would start and ride again. Anything restricting fuel flow will cause this. It means you need to send low psi compressed air into the cylinder, and listen for a leak. Eliminate valves being open, and rings gone bad. Do the test dry, or with the cylinders not oily, and then wet, to find out if it is a leak down from the rings. Now it runs decent smells a little rich at times, but the spark plugs don't indicate it. Sometimes when its colder, I need to give it a little throttle to even get it started then I'll add some choke until it warms up this is when it usually smells rich. Also, last night when I was on the highway doing 70-80 mph it bogged down and died 3 times but started right back up on the side of the road. This is the first time I've had any issues on the highway as I've put about 2000 miles on it so far. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Nighthawk Motorcycle Lovers!" group.
