Microsoft's binary distribution of VSCode is under a non-open license and has
monitoring/tracking built in. People who have a problem with that (like me) can
build VSCode themselves from the MIT-licensed sources following [these
instructions](https://github.com/microsoft/vscode/wiki/How-to-Contribute) using
a more privacy friendly config.
[VSCodium](https://github.com/VSCodium/vscodium) has already done that, but
that's probably also true for a software package for your favourite Linux/MacOS
package manager.
