Hi  Doug, I just found out that the freeware drivers that Kino 
pointed to are also made by HP...! I have just installed it, and it 
worked immediately, and is fast, compared with the original Carbon 
based printing driver of OSX (and OS9 -- same driver for both 
platforms, which might be part of the trouble...). It does not 
support scanning and other stuft my All-in-one can do though. 

I too think that HP are making good stuff. But their carbon OSX 
drivers for the *all-in-one* line of printers (at least some/most of 
them) have been very problematic from first step. The same driver is 
95% perfect under Classic and MacOS9. This is a special problem for 
aio-printers.
