In my understanding, the basic idea of gimp-print and hpijs is the same: let Ghostscript to convert output data of Print Centre into a data format understood by *non* PS level 2 printers. There are also packages for Brother printers, PS level 1 printers, Samsumg printers and ImageWriter.
