Subject: [nlpatumd] Update
Hello Everyone,
I got done with my thesis defense today, and I
tihnk it went through
without any problems. I just wanted to thank
everyone in the group who
took time to listen to my presentaitons and give
me very helpful insights
during our group meetings and other occasions. I
sincerely appreciate all
the help and input.
Well, what is the next step in life for me? I had
interviewed with Thomson
West (A company in minneapolis) during finals week
(actually, I drove to
minneapolis the very night of my graduation ceremony, in order to go
for
the interview the next day) and they offered me a
full-time job there. I
hope to start on the 20th of June, which gives me
about a week to wrap up
things in duluth!
I will be working with the search group there,
actually, you probably
would have seen ted's recent e mails regarding his
visit to Thomson West (or
West Publishing). This is actually a dream job for
me, because, I have
been using Google so much for my research, I
really felt a liking for
search related stuff. My research work definitely
helped, during all the
interviews that I have been through the last
couple of months, it
always gave me something very interesting and nice
to talk about,
and the interviewers were also very interested. It
is actually quite
suprising how little people know about NLP.
Being part of the NLP group at UMD is really a
great opportunity, and for
anyone interested in doing "interesting"
research, my advice go for it in
NLP!
Finally, for those who know me better, I did my
undergraduate studies
here in Duluth, and now I finished my Masters.
Wow, 5 years in duluth, it
is definitely going to be a big change in life for
me! I am no longer
under the protection of heller hall or mwah! its
time to get outside my
second "home"!
Well, Banu, Aditi, Nitin, Saif, Sid, Amruta,
Bridget, Jason, Anagha,
Mahesh, And Apurva Thank you all for your support
(I basically know
everyone in the UMD NLP group, hehe, shows how
long I have been here)!
And finally, Thank you very much to Ted, it is
simply amazing the level
of interest, patience, guidance and thoughtfulness
that you have shown to
all of us throughout our careers as Masters
Students at UMD! It has made
our Masters an awesome experience!
Thank you all very much,
Pratheep.
