The smartest students simply set up an SSH tunnel to their Linux servers at home, and then proxy web requests over the tunnel, thus completely avoiding any logging your system. At least, that's what I've been known to do at workplaces with ultra-sensitive corporate web filters that blocked sites we needed to use for work...
