Yes, I could certainly implement the processing in both places and then put
them under control of an #ifdef or if().

I'm a bit at a loss as to where the best place to put that condition would
be, though.  Should it be an option to configure?  A manual #define?  An
environment variable?  An mts.conf entry?

If the latter, should it be two different "masquerade:" values
("username_extension_from" and "username_extension_global"?) or should I
introduce a new "username_extension:" line?

If I'm going to introduce complexity I just want to put it where it'll be
the least obtrusive (balancing that with being as dynamically configurable
as possible).
