The 'who' command lists this.

That depends on how you start xterm.  The '-ut' and '+ut' operands
can set whether an entry is made in utmp.  (Offhand, I don't remember
which is which).  Also your .Xdefaults can turn this on or off.

That only looks at the permissions of your tty.
