I think that there has been a misunderstanding in this topic....

I think that what Spiral is describing are conceptual buckets, not
buckets that exist in MoneyWell.

The bucket that she described as her Dining Bucket:
>> Example:
>> Dining - allocate $100 a month, cap of $100 a month
>> Auto Repairs - no cap, allocate $100 a month

>> Dining has $50 in it from last month that rolls over to this month.

>> Dining bucket total is $100.

Appears to be a similar request that many of us have made, that Kevin
has previously referred to as adding a "pipe" from one bucket to
another if the bucket exceeds a predetermined amount (when Dining
Bucket hits $100, the excess is piped to a different bucket. This
functionality does not currently exist in MoneyWell, and therefore the
behavior that you desire in the Dining bucket is not yet available
unless you manually flow money every month after your allocation, or
edit the allocation itself when you spend money.

>> My Auto Repairs has $400 in the bucket.
>> When I flow my money, $100 is placed into the bucket.
>> Auto Repairs bucket total is $500.

What Spiral describes as her preferred behavior for the Auto bucket
above is currently the only behavior available in MoneyWell.

Personally, I find that a reference to a fill-to-line is misleading
and may lead to confusion. When I think of buckets, and a line on the
inside that bucket, and I want to fill to that line, it implies that
the bucket will have the same amount in it regardless of how many
times or when I fill it. A fill-to-line is a good description for the
Dining bucket described above, the behavior not-yet available in
MoneyWell, but probably not the best for MoneyWell's current bucket
behavior--we're not filling buckets to a specified line, we're filling
them with a predetermined amount, and the bucket grows to accommodate.

Grace to you,
Blair
