No there is no mattress involved.. i have simply transferred the funds
out of the savings for 'earmarking' the funds... savings for pets,
saving for extra escrow, savings for the year end electric bill
reconcile... (which isn't really year end but anyways).., and the most
important one - 8 month float (for a living emergency fund)...(trying
to grow this to 12 month float) so the funds are still in my actual
bank account gaining interest --- but i don't want to see the funds in
that real account - and accidentally spend it... so i do a fake
transfer to the cash accounts... i always used cash accounts in
quicken as i had no idea of their purpose - only that they didn't
require any institution info... (just sort of kept using that account
type) - in moneywell i like how its a completely different icon so i
can tell - "ok that's not real".... (neither my husband nor i really
keep more than 40 on us - and 20 in each car for emergency's... so we
are not cash spenders per sae... we use cards :) ) - i tried buckets
for this - but gave up because they wanted me to get the funds from
some 'income' but i had already saved up a significant amount - and
therefore it was from Past income... i could figure out how to
allocate from what was already in savings..., and i couldnt figure out
how to get it show it 'leaving savings' etc...

Even now when i allocate my funds for normally monthly bills i am
uncomfortable not seeming them actually 'leave' my account (i used to
simply have all my bills from the 1st to the 15th scheduled.... pay
would come - i would repeat all those bills -- see how much i had left
and put that in savings... repeat for 15th-30)

so i gave up and went back to my old method - (we discussed savings
plans in another thread already) - cause i need to do 3 things
1 - remove the funds from view so i can see how much 'leftover' i have
- and not spend what i set aside
2 - change the amount i saved as what i am saving to cover fluctuates
(lets say i have 170 transfer every month into electric reconcile
savings cash account.... but i get my electric bill and see i used
less this month - so my budget amount i paid (which is always the same
and split between current due - and rest going to running balance)
went to some of the 'real' running balance.. lowering it -- i can then
just delete one of the transfers to that cash account in moneywell and
lower the amount i saved for that running Electric balance
expenditure... )

3 - see what i have saved so i can see if i reached a goal.

i Tried to use buckets (really i did :) ) -- but for example - i have
saved up 40k for emergency float... but i also need to see it leave
the savings account so i don't accidentally spend it :) - so i
'withdrew' the funds in the savings - and i put in 'emergency funds'
bucket.. but it shows it as a Negative for that 40k.... so not
good :) - becuase from what i can see buckets are designed to handle
spending not saving.
