I didn't mean to imply that I use the "Show Split Transaction Totals"
constantly. I don't. I use it when I'm researching transactions and/
or reconciling. And yes I see that reconciling shows the totals. My
main "issue" was with how transactions are displayed as filtered by
default. I would like it the other way around. I was only using the
way MW displays splits as supporting evidence for what seems like a
weakness in the current methodology and that showing transactions
differently would eliminate the need for the option all together which
makes a lot of sense to me.

With that said, I do use the "Show Split Transaction Totals" view
outside of reconciling for an "account" that I really can't reconcile
using the normal process. Perhaps you can enlighten me to a better
way.

I have each of my checking, savings and primary credit cards as
separate accounts for which I download transactions. However, there
are 3 or 4 store credit cards that my wife uses periodically in order
to get additional discount promotions etc. However, I really don't
want to have those extra accounts taking up space particularly since I
have no online access to them and therefore no way to download /
import transactions. So I have a catch-all account called "other
credit cards". We enter the transactions as they occur but sometimes
we miss one and so when we get the statement we "reconcile" it to MW
manually. And oftentimes since the transactions are split, the only
way I can really reconcile them is to turn the "Show Split Totals"
view on. I then match the transactions to my statement and mark them
as cleared. I sum the cleared transactions to make sure the numbers
match my statement and if they do, I mark all the transactions as
reconciled and I'm done. By the way, this method exposed the bug I
wrote about in my other recent post about how the transactions are
summed incorrectly.

Going through this process led me to thinking that it would be better
- at least for my way of thinking - to have the transactions shown
differently.

I appreciate your feedback and although we may see things differently,
I know that I'm being heard. Thanks.

Kevin M.
