In my experience, you have to have the cash part as the first line of
the split transaction. If you do the other part first, it will
transfer that amount and refuse to fix it even if you switch them
afterward. I ran into this again this morning and had to delete the
transaction, then re-enter and make sure to put the cash amount first.
