I would like Mark Spahn to refrain from including us in his private exchanges with others, particularly since they end up in my private inbox rather than my not honyaku box. I would also like Mark Spahn to attend a Darul Uloom so that he can comment on the hadith with more authority. He asserts without conviction. If he is unprepared to do that, then can he please return to lambasting the Church of Scientology so we can all have a good laugh. Peter Clark ===UNQUOTE==
Hi Peter, I do not understand the distinction between your private inbox and your not_honyaku "box" (not inbox). Doesn't everyone have, by definition, one inbox, like everyone has, by definition, one financial portfolio? Please let me know how I can avoid what you do not want me to do. As far as I know, all the messages I have written here have been public. So how are my private messages even ending up here? I hope someone will explain the distinction, and what this "cross-posting" is, and whether and why it is good or bad. I don't know what a Darul Uloom is (a school?), but I have not been commenting on hadiths with authority. Just the opposite; I have been asking questions to an authority about hadiths, such as: What reason did the Prophet give for instructing men not to urinate while standing? You and I may think this a foolish rule, but Muhammad didn't, and I'd like to know his justification for this rule, why he thinks it improves our lives. Now that you mention Scientology, a longish while ago I had a discussion with a Scientologist under pretty much exactly the same circumstances as my discussion with Irfan Sheikh. If I remember right, it was initiated by advertising, an invitation to find out more about Scientology, like the invitation to learn more about Islam that I saw on the side of a bus. I don't know why it would be improper to speak with a Muslim in the same public way and with a Scientologist. In both cases, I think I behaved quite politely and properly. -- Mark Spahn (West Seneca, NY) --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ Persons posting messages to not_honyaku assume all responsibility for their messages.
