OK. The fact that it doesn't create the file at startup on DirectWrite is part 
of the design. But it sounds like using that configuration everything is 
working correctly but you would like the files created at startup. Is there a 
reason why them not being created until the first log event is a problem for 
you?

So far I haven't identified anything that is a bug in Log4j that needs to be 
fixed.
