Update in `3b9d669dbd` (master merged): the containment fail-safe now bypasses the cache and runs the provider whenever the host metadata token is missing or invalid, so it can't reuse a legacy entry without a token. The precision fix is preserved. This stays on hold until #45100 merges, since #45100 supplies the per-layer metadata version that containment keys on.
