W2K will look to DNS for the DCs.

NT4 will look to WINS for the 1C records to find a DC. Are the NT4 clients
configured to use WINS? Are the 1C entries there for the Domain
Controllers? You will find the 1C records as a property of a record with
the same name as your domain.

Win9x - not sure, too old. Maybe like NT4.

Subject: Clients cannot find domain controller

I just switched one of my buildings over from its own network to a VPN
connected subnet with the rest of the district. The subnet has own domain
controller (WIN2K SP2) and is a global catalog and is running DHCP, DNS and
WINS for the subnet.

My WIN2K Pro client found the domain controller fine but the NT4 WS nor the
WIN9X clients can find the domain controller.

When I switched the domain controller over from its own network to one for
the district network the NetBios domain name does stay the same.

What is messing me up?

Thanks.
