Clarification for Kevin,

For now, I am mostly runing Windows 98,
and sometimes W2K pro and W2K server with SQL 2000.

For better performance, I want to change Win 98 at the same time as the PC.

I don't want to keep Windows 98.

For my main OS, in the new PC, I want it to be W2K pro
and do test with W2K server and SQL 2000

Thanks

Did anyone read what OS he is running? Win98, if that's all you are going
to run you should just stick with the current machine. There is NO SMP
support in 98, and the P4 extentions won't be taken advantage of with 98.

RE: RDRAM.
That is about to change. I believe VIA just released a chipset for the P4
that supports DDR instead. However, there will be a lag before motherboards
with this chipset start shipping.

I am not familiar with the performance boost with a P4, but you should
consider the cost involve.

RDRAM is expensive and it's the only memory supported in P4.

Hi all,

I need you advice,

I am running Windows 98 on a Pentium2 - 350 with 512 meg.

I am thinking of replacing that PC for either a Pentium3 Dual 1000 with 512
meg or a Pentium4 1.8 with 512 meg running Windows 2000 Pro.

If I don't run any games on that PC, but run multi boot OS, including W2K
server and SQL 2000.

My main use for that PC is Email, Internet, Office softwares, Utilities, and
to test Server software.

For that use, would you recommand a P3-dual 1000 or a P4 1.8

Thanks in advance
