Between 11:30 PM and 6:00 AM, you can be running backups, virus scans,
defrags, and other types of maintenance options during this time. Servers
run best when left alone. The more you interfere with them, I have noticed,
the more likely problems will arise.

Subject: about nonstop boxes

Hi folks!

I manage a small network with some old pentium boxes as servers, and I am in
the process of changing them for new Dell boxes. Each night at 11:30 pm a
switch cuts the power of the office, and the UPSs power down the servers. At
6:00 AM the same switch brings the power on. I am under the impression that
it would be better if the servers are on all the time, but I have no good
arguments to convince the boss. I would be very grateful if someone could
provide a convincing line. Or am I wrong?

TIA
