I do believe that the vendor should have some info for you on this, there
are tons of MTBF studies that show what folks here have said but with hard
numbers.

LOL
Have to be honest, this is the first time I ever heard of someone shutting
off everything every night.

WTF? Every night?? You must be working for a miser.
Every time you turn one off, there is a chance it wont turn back on. Hard
drives have been known to freeze up.

Subject: about nonstop boxes

Hi folks!

I manage a small network with some old pentium boxes as servers, and I am in
the process of changing them for new Dell boxes. Each night at 11:30 pm a
switch cuts the power of the office, and the UPSs power down the servers. At
6:00 AM the same switch brings the power on. I am under the impression that
it would be better if the servers are on all the time, but I have no good
arguments to convince the boss. I would be very grateful if someone could
provide a convincing line. Or am I wrong?

TIA

Joel
