You can easily create a WINS (NT 4 domain) or DNS (NT 4 or Active
Directory) alias that points to the IP address of the web server. Users
would open their web browser and type the name of the alias (http://intranet
for example) and then either DNS or WINS (depending on your environment)
would resolve the name to an IP. I have both WINS and DNS aliases
configured in my current environment and both are working fine.
It is not necessary to change the name of the server.
Thanks,
-Tom

Subject: Off topic: IIS under AD question: Naming
Importance: Low
I know this is off topic, but I don't know where else to ask.
Since IIS falls under AD in Windows 2k, I thought I would ask here.
I am setting up an intranet set for the company and right now I browse to
the site by typing in the name of the server on which the site is located.
Can I change this to something else, and if so how? Or do I need to change
the name of the computer?
Any suggestions would be appreciated as I'm not familiar with IIS - and I
don't know if I really want to be!
