Hi I am running a Windows XP Professional computer against a Windows 2000 Server with Active Directory and GPO software. I experience the same problem you described: no software install when the computer starts for the first time, but the software installs after rebooting. This problem exists regardless of installation method of WinXPPro. In my event log, WinXPPro tells my that something went wrong during the GPO software and it will try after next reboot (I dont remember the exact words...) My point is that I think the issue is Windows XP Professional and not your server. Sveinung

Upon booting up, the managed software should install but it doesn't. If I log in once - local or into the domain - log out and reboot, the group policy gets applied upon boot up. If I log in for the first time, run gpresult, the information provided tells me that the GP for installing Office XP was infact applied, even though there is no Office XP installed. I have heard that if you use the default AD Users and Computers from the Start Menu, create a new Group Policy and edit it there, it will not work in the fashion you would expect. I have created all Group Policies from snap-in's and applied them to the AD Users and Computers using a snap-in. The Security on the GP is correct as well. Has anyone else come across this or know where I can start looking?
