Hi Hector, Good to know the ICA client is free. If the solaris server can handle an ICA client, I am currently running wyse 3230 so I assume I could connect. The problem with the 3000 series is you cannot connect to two servers at the same time, which is Bud's requirement. I understand the wyse 8000 series can.
If you look at from an existing xterm perspective: For me the cost of a metaframe concurrent licence is US$250 and a single 8230 is US$500. Initially this looks favourable to metaframe, but the cost of upgrading metaframe over say the 6 year life of the winterm could make it a closer race. If you look at it from having no terminal at all or having to replace the terminal anyhow (ie your are going to spend $200 on an xterm anyhow) then a winterm may be an option. Having said that, there are some features in meta frame that may be benifical no matter what and you would pick metaframe anyhow. Can I end with another dumb question? Another option, why not connect a low end winterm just to terminal services and use a windows based xterm "client" software on the terminal server. i.e. run a xterm session inside the terminal server session -----Original Message----- From: Minero Hector B DLVA [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Saturday, 13 October 2001 7:59 a.m. To: NT 2000 Discussions Subject: RE: Accessing Terminal Services from X-Terminal Solaris ICA client is a free download from the Citrix Site. I'm not up to date on the price of Citrix Software, but it's licensed per concurrent connection. So if you have 300 users, but only 100 connect at one particular time, you only need 100 ICA licenses. If you just want to allow X-teminals to connect to the Term Srv. over the LAN, it takes almost no time to set up MetaFrame. As always, I would test MetaFrame before you buy it. You can get a demo copy from a reseller. *************************************************** This e-mail is not an official statement of the Waikato Regional Council unless otherwise stated.
