When you install the client on the server to be backed up, it grants you the ability to back up the "System State". That contains basically the entire OS install :) plus your AD DB, the sysvol, etc. So yes, that would back up AD. NetBackup Client is probably all you need. Search for the term System State. you'll probably find more info. As for backups being successful. I think, with BE 8.5 anyways, we can back up the system state of a 2k server and domain controller. BUT, to restore that information, you the server running the restore and the server receiving the restored data must be 2K. Basically, why keep the NT4 server around? Just upgrade it to 2K and be done with it. We're all 2K here except for the exchange server and maintenance is so much lower. -----Original Message----- From: Turner, Robert D. Can you give me a brief overview? We have an existing system for NT4. The consultants are not sure if it will backup AD. I suspect NetBackup can backup AD. However a search of the Veritas Site yields no hits on "Active Directory". The consultants think we need just the NetBackup Client and the Open Transaction Manager "OTM". I do not have a good confidence level about this working. Seems to me, there should be an AD agent to install.
