Vendor for what?

I think that there's some other angles to think about.

Support for NT4 is officially going away at some point, in reality it's
already starting to slip. The best MS support folks don't want to be working
on older technology.

If you upgrade to the latest and greatest today it'll be a little bit longer
till the next time you need to upgrade.

At some point if you stick with NT4, there will be a lack of drivers for new
systems, folks just aren't interested in writing for it if they don't need
to.

As for the alternatives, Netware has been sliding for several years, it's
not too likely to turn around.

Linux can be a possibility, but you most likely have several vendors that
don't support it on the server side.

I know about the pain, I worked at a teaching hospital, state institution
too, that didn't upgrade wiring for 25 years. Then they wondered why the
performance sucked.

They'd still be doing DOS on a 286 if it were up to them.

I work at a Bank now, almost as cheap.....
