We've got a pretty small environment: 250 pc's and 20 servers. Our hospital s/ware vendor hasn't even mentioned XP. They're pretty slow when it comes to checking their s/ware vis a vis MS's newer OS's.
Just my luck, we'll finally get moved over to 2000 and MS will announce end-of-support for it, effective a year later. If you have a large environment and have not even started planning and looking at application compatibility issues that really is not a whole lot of time to get off of a platform. We are starting an XP implementation now of 3000 systems. The actual roll-out is scheduled for 500 systems a month, but with all the training, testing, logistics and such we are looking for a completion date of March 2003. Actually you can "sort of" buy support from others, we have our support contract with Compaq, but the bottom line from anyone else is that if there's a bug only MS can address it. They have announced that they are moving away from NT4. Service packs for NT4 are done, hot fixes will be over some day, forget when. You could buy support, but all of them just escalate to MS when they run out of answers.
