You might want to mention that MS's market share is a non-story. Quite simply, it isn't good journalism to say what everyone already knows. Reporters would much rather cover Linux's growth into MS territory and Apache's dominance in the web server market. The only mentions of market share other than the kind listed below are going to be from the DOJ trial.
That said, I found a few articles that make your decision look real good :-) "IDC: Microsoft's Share of OS Market Huge -- And Growing" http://www.entmag.com/news/article.asp?EditorialsID=4953 "Linux threatens Unix, not Windows" http://techupdate.zdnet.com/techupdate/stories/main/0,14179,2816323,00.html "Microsoft Alternative: The Software Giant Commands A Huge Market Share, But You Have Other Options" http://www.smartcomputing.com/editorial/article.asp?article=articles%2F1999% 2Fs1011%2F08s11%2F08s11%2Easp "GROWTH IN MARKET SHARE UNLIKELY TO SLOW" Published on November 3, 2001, San Jose Mercury News (CA) $1.95 to read it here (article 18 of 71): http://nl4.newsbank.com/nl-search/we/Archives?p_multi=SJ&p_product=NewsLibra ry&p_theme=newslibrary&p_action=search&p_maxdocs=500&p_text_search-0=MICROSO FT%20AND%20market%20AND%20share&s_dispstring=MICROSOFT%20market%20share%20AN D%20date(last%20180%20days)&p_field_date-0=YMD_date&p_params_date-0=date:B,E &p_text_date-0=-180qzD&p_perpage=25&p_sort=YMD_date:D&xcal_useweights=no The IDC report is here (for *only* $2,500!): http://www.idc.com/getdoc.jhtml?containerId=24827 Hope that helps, Josiah Gordon -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]]On Behalf Of Chinnery Paul Sent: Friday, December 21, 2001 12:38 PM To: NT 2000 Discussions Subject: market share We're working on a proposal to get our org completely to Windows 2000. As part of that proposal, I've been trying to find a chart or information showing market share of Windows 2000 and NT. So far, I've drawn a blank. I've used Google and Yahoo; search Information Week, Business Week and a host of other sites (including Microsoft) to no avail. Can anybody point me to a good place to check?
