If you're running Win2K, then WinXP is much less of a step up... If you're
running Win9x, ME, or NT4 then WinXP shines like a jewel in a king's
crown....

Remote Desktop definitely runs better over slow links than VNC (though
TightVNC helps in those situations)... The ability to change desktop
resolutions on RD is nice if you don't know where you're going to be working
from... Say you're working from a borrowed laptop to connect to your work
PC... The borrowed laptop only has a SVGA (800x600) screen and your work
desktop is normally set at XGA (1024x768)... It's quite annoying to have to
scroll around the screen with VNC (and I can't stand VNC's "scale"
feature)... With RD you can set the resolution to SVGA and not have to
scroll around... It makes getting real work done much easier... Then of
course you can have sound with RD (so you can hear the little ping of emails
being dropped into your Inbox if you so desire)... RD doesn't have the same
odd draw problems that you see with VNC sometimes in IE or DOS windows...
etc etc etc...

Of course the system restore feature and driver rollback features are great
if you're an endless tinkerer like I am (or need to test the latest driver
releases before making them available to all the end users)...

...and I'm always using the Picture and Fax printing wizard (we get all our
Faxes delivered as TIF files)... The Picture and Fax printing wizard works
much better(more simple and quicker) than the other software I've tried for
printing multi page TIF's...

I sat through a webcast this morning for Remote Desktop. I understand some
of the bells and whistles but I can do most of this with VNC and not have to
upgrade. If this is the "neatest" feature can someone give me other concrete
reasons to upgrade. I am asking wondering why else XP could be so
important..... I am very satisfied with the stability and ease of use of
Windows 2k (relatively speaking)

Remote Desktop is my favorite.

Also, there are even *less* reboots to deal with in XP (USB storage devices
don't mind being unplugged midstream)

Hi guys,

Does anyone can tell pro/con's
of implementing Windows/XP instead of Windows 2000/Professional. That is in
a Windows 2000 server based network

Thanks
