It depends on the organization, because sometimes Network Admin and Network
Engineer are synonymous, and sometimes Network Admin and Systems Admin are
synonymous.

Working with the latter description, here's what I've previously drawn up.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Standard Administrator Responsibilities
At no time should you be surprised by low space conditions (or other
inadequacies) on the systems that you maintain, and you should have current
statistics as to the capacities of those systems at all times.  Each person
should put systems in place that assist them in servicing the end-user
community, and collectively, we need to deploy tools and systems which will
allow us to detect problems before they occur.
Here are some questions every administrator should know about his/her
systems:
       How many users can I support overall?  How many concurrently?
       How many users are on my system during peak usage?
       What kind of usage do I have throughout the day?  Month?  Year?
       What are my highest days of usage?
       What would I need to do to support 2x my present number of users?
3x?
       What would I need to do to recover my systems in an emergency?
       Are my systems thoroughly documented?  Could anyone else manage
them?
Listed below are some responsibilities that all administrators are expected
to perform for the specific systems that they maintain:
       Maintain/Provide performance and usage statistics and trending
       Facilitating periodic load/capacity testing
       Review the Event Logs and other System Logs for problems
       Provide operational docs for all systems and applications
       Document all changes to the environment
       Ensure that the systems are being backed up
       Ensure the overall security of the systems
       Develop project plans to address any deficiencies found in the
systems
       Develop project plans to address performance issues proactively
       Automate standard administrative tasks (e.g. Log Archival,
Configuration Backups)
       Develop Disaster Recovery or Contingency Plans for all systems.
       Research tools, services and procedures to make your job more
efficient
       Keep up on industry practices by perusing trade magazines and
websites
       Regular participation in technical mailing lists and newsgroups
       Recommend tools and technologies to enhance the systems environment
Subject: Network Administrator
I know this is probably a question that will annoy some of you
but in your opinions, in your words what do you think is the function of a
network admin
i.e. what sort of tasks (besides troubleshooting) should network admin be
doing on a daily/montly/weekly  basis?
