Yes you can run just about any app as a service...
You can use the Windows 2000 Reskit Util Srvinstw.exe: Service Installation
Wizard

Or one of my favorites at http://firedaemon.com/

Now I am very intrigued.

Paul,
That is a very cool idea We have the ability to bring everyone up to
Outlook 2K or the script idea would be even cooler I will have to look into
this further.

Joshua,
Are you saying I could create a service to run these?? I am not sure
I understand. Did you mean to say "Why NOT call the apps you want to run
with a service" Pardon my lack of experience but I would even know where to
begin. This would be very helpful with my distiller.

Just a question.... Why call to the apps you want to run with a Service?

Todd,
This simple question sure went a long way. I also have no problem editing
the registry my only concern with Q310584 is that the password is kept in
plain text, not a real big deal because I am sure I can protect the key.
This server is 2k but I have many NT servers so I should be able to pull up
the Autolog.exe. Or maybe I will do the registry Hack (sorry to use Hack it
just sounds cooler then modify). By the way I have "hacked" the registry
with ill effects but I didn't know what I was doing as is usually the case.
I will never be accused of being holier than thou.

Alex,
With the TSWEB I can just select shutdown from the start menu but as
with the shutdown command it will not log me back in. I can log in and start
the apps but when I log of the apps close. MS really does need to create a
way for apps to be running wile it is not logged in I have the same problem
on an NT 4 machine that is running a distiller. This server is almost never
shutdown though.

I hope we can all still be friends :)

Oh, aren't we just a bit holier than thou?? NO $H!T Sherlock! Any admin
worth his/her salt knows how to "play" with the registry, and has no
problem with it. And I agree with almost every statement you make. But
why do something when you don't have to? To make my car run better, I
*could* tear down the engine every 5,000 miles, but I prefer to just change
the oil...

(Now let's just smile, shack e-hands, and move on, shall we??) :-) :^) :-D

Justin - AUTOLOG is on the NT4 Server Resource Kit CD; I don't think you
ever mentioned what OS you are actually working on? I know it works on any
NT4/2000 machine though. And since I didn't HACK THE REGISTRY (<G>) when I
used it, I don't know how it stores the info. I can send it to you
privately if you'd like; a search on MS-KB for AUTOLOG will probably tell
you as much as I can, too.
