I've had a couple of my consultants tell me lately they've gotten clear away from WD
hard drives, sounds like the quality control has gone to crap. IBM seems preferred.

I've had Win2000 refuse to install to a couple of Western Digital hard
drives with exactly the same symptoms. I had heard a rumor that there was
an incompatibility between the OS and certain WD drives, but I was never
able to track anything definitive down.

I switched to Maxtors and carried on. The WD's work fine as slaves, BTW.
