I think W2K still looks to DNS for client resolution by default. I'm
not sure if/how to get the new server to resolve the *domain* from a
LMHOSTS file. I could stand corrected though.

Subject: adding win2k server to nt 4 domain

just installed a new copy of win2k server, and when I go and try and add
it
to the domain.. i get "The specified domain either does not exist or
could
not be contacted"... I have put in a statice entry in the lmhosts file,
even
put a static mapping in the WINS server for the PDC(even though there
was
already one) from this new server I can ping any machine including the
PDC
just can't seem to join the domain...

any help is appreciated
