PUTINENV.EXE may be useful for other reasons, but it is not necessary to map
a user to their home directory. Define the user's home directory in their
profile and simply use

NET USE H: /HOME

To map the user's drive. Works with clients from Windows 95 thru XP.

I dont know if this helps or even if its what you are trying to do, but
there is a program called PUTINENV.EXE. I dont know precisley what this
does, but we use it in the capacity that it takes the username and is then
able to map a drive letter to a share matching the username.

For example, user Joe Bloggs has the username JBloggs. JBloggs home folder
is shared as JBloggs$. Using PUTINENV.EXE, we are able to map the H: drive
directly to JBloggs$

After the logon script runs the, you simply do a
NET USE H: \\SERVER\%USERNAME%$

When the user clicks their H: drive, it will be the contents of their
network drive only, nothing else.

Hope that is of some use.

Cheers.

Subject: Novell Migration

I am planning on migrating our shared files from Novell to Win2000 shares.
On the Novell server if a user does not have filescan permissions they
cannot even see the folder in the browser window. Is there a comparable
permission I can remove with Microsoft?

The problem is with Novell we are mapping H:\ to a departmental folder which
also has all the home directories for that department. I do not want
everyone in the department to see everyone elses home folders. If they are
visible they will attempt to click and get the access denied message and
start asking questions about why they cannot get to it. Any solutions?
