Sorry - I misread your message yesterday.
I used to see the problem with windows 95 and first ed. 98. Once the
windows 9x versions started applying auto dhcp IP addresses (169.x.x.x.
which I think 98se was the first OS to do this) when the dhcp server was
unavailable, the symptoms, of course, would not resemble the subject of this
problem. Anyway - it was just a thought.

Yes but *your* comment was you've seen the client go straight to thr desktop
when configured for DHCP but did not recieve and IP address from the server.
I was simply stating evey time I've run into a DHCP client (Win9x) not
getting an IP address when configured for DHCP and domain logon I get a "No
domain server is available to validate your password..." message instead of
going right to the desktop.

When you click OK or CANCEL where? The original question stated that it was
skipping the logon screen, and going directly to the desktop.

In that case you (usually) get a "No domain controller...." message, on
which you click OK or CANCEL.

I've seen this happen if it is configured for DHCP, but fails to receive a
DHCP address.

Also make sure that check the box to log on to NT domain checked and put the
name of the domain in the box.
