I've seen success in running programs under the following conditions.
The machine I'm scheduling these jobs from is windows 2000/XP.
The machines I need to install on are NT/2000/XP.
IE5.5 sp2 with the task scheduler upgrade installed on the destination
machines
Go to the run command and type \\computername
        Double click "Task Scheduler"
Right click in the white space and go to New then Scheduled Task
Schedule it as a task to run under an account that has administrative
rights on the machine.
        In the run box: \\servername\share\program-to-run.exe
        In the start in: \\servername\share\
I've never had problems with this method.
If you want to run it immediately right click and choose run.

I have seen problems when the Star in box contains syntax errors. I also
have always run these scheduled tasks as an admin. I'll also add that this
is a manual process where as SMS is somewhat automated.

Hope this helps.

Subject: schedule software installations?

Is there any way to schedule software installations (using msi's)
without getting SMS?

Thanks in advance for any info provided.
