Yes, that's the problem. I'm hoping to find a way to schedule them
without going to sms. I may forget about doing it through a gpo and try
to script an msi install then use scheduler to run the script. I was
hoping for something easier since I don't script much, but it looks like
that may be my only option.

Although GPO's do not give you the option to schedule the installs . .

Depending on how the software installation is  configured, the user may
not
have the software installed until next reboot, or may have it
immediately
available in add/remove programs for installation.

If it is an MSI then you can use the Active Directory to deploy the
software,
